Kimberley Murray is a music, event and social documentary photographer based in London and Brighton. Attending concerts from an early age, they developed a fascination and adoration for the theatricality and artistry of the live music scene, admiring the photographers from the front row. With origins in photographing the grass roots music scene, they would pay attention to little details of the event, often turning the camera to the crowd symbiotically with the events of the stage, provoking a community centred focus in their practice. Exploring social connection, subculture, shared experience and the art of the performance their work extends these scenes to the virtual, creating images that reflect the atmosphere and energy of the location, so the viewer can immerse themselves in the moment, vicariously. Their style can be described as high-contrast, mono-tonal dynamic shots, putting a nostalgic, emotive spin on modern methods.
